The Golf
Club is a special activity of the ExxonMobil Annuitant Club – Morris
Area (EACMA)
. This club was formed
for the 2000 season and
continued an activity that had been going on locally since at least
1970.
When Esso Mathematics and Systems, Inc. moved out of New York
to Florham Park the 102 Golf League was formed. It also incorporated a previous
activity by the ER&E Employees club. In 1983 it was renamed the Exxon
Employees Club Golf League. Membership has varied but the roster one year shows
94 players. During this period most of the membership were employees from the
various Exxon units around the Florham Park area but Exxon annuitants, former
employees and contractors were also welcomed. The club received some sponsorship
in the form of a subsidy from the EE Club for its budget.
When the move of the ExxonMobil offices from Florham Park
was imminent it was apparent that the club would fold because the EE Club in
Clinton would be too far away to provide any membership or support. The
population of Exxon retirees remaining in the area wanted to retain the activity
that they had enjoyed for so many years. A group of EACMA members decided to
approach the EACMA to see if they would sponsor the golf as one of their
activities. Eventually this was agreed and the relationship has been good for
both parties.
